What is SGI?

South Georgia Institute (SGI) is a nonprofit collegiate athletic development institution located in Americus, Georgia. SGI is designed to bridge the gap between high school and four-year college opportunities by providing student-athletes with competitive athletics, player development, leadership training, mentorship, academic support, and college exposure.

 

Where is SGI located?

SGI is located in Americus, Georgia, in the heart of Southwest Georgia. Our location provides student-athletes with an affordable, supportive community and an environment focused on personal and athletic development.

 

Who is SGI designed for?

SGI serves student-athletes who want an additional opportunity to develop before advancing to a four-year college or university. This includes high school graduates seeking greater athletic exposure, athletes who need additional development, students preparing to transfer, and individuals who thrive in a structured and mentorship-driven environment.

 

Does SGI offer college degrees?

SGI does not directly award college degrees or academic credits. Instead, SGI works with accredited educational institutions and academic providers to create pathways through which eligible students can pursue college coursework.

SGI is responsible for the athletic development, training, competition, mentoring, leadership development, study support, and overall student-athlete experience.

 

What academic opportunities are available?

Depending on the student's academic pathway and eligibility, opportunities through accredited educational providers may include general education courses, college-level coursework, associate-level pathways, transfer preparation, academic advising, and progress toward a college credential or degree.

 

What sports does SGI offer?

SGI Huskies Athletics includes programs such as Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Track & Field, and Flag Football, with opportunities for additional sports as the institution continues to grow.

Our athletic model emphasizes fundamentals, strength and conditioning, competition, film, recruiting exposure, discipline, and preparation for the next level.

 

Are scholarships available?

Athletic or other forms of financial assistance may be available based on eligibility, program availability, funding, and individual circumstances. Prospective students should speak directly with SGI Admissions regarding current opportunities.

 

How do I apply?

Prospective student-athletes begin by completing the SGI application, submitting required academic records and documents, completing the admissions review process, and satisfying all enrollment requirements. Student-athletes may also be evaluated by the appropriate SGI coaching staff.
