STATUTES OF THE INSTITUTE

Statutes of South Georgia Institute

Preamble

The South Georgia Institute (SGI) is founded on the principles of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community leadership. These statutes serve to define the structure, responsibilities, and operational standards of the Institute in pursuit of its mission to provide a Christ-centered environment that empowers students to excel and positively impact their communities.

 

Article I – Name and Authority

Section 1.1 – Name
The name of this institution shall be South Georgia Institute, hereafter referred to as SGI.

 

Section 1.2 – Authority
SGI is established under the laws of the State of Georgia and operates in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. SGI is authorized to grant academic certificates, diplomas, and degrees as approved by partnering institutions and accrediting bodies.

 

Article II – Mission and Purpose

SGI is committed to:

  • Delivering quality education grounded in Christian values

  • Fostering holistic student development—academically, spiritually, and socially

  • Preparing students for leadership and service in their communities and professions

 

Article III – Governance

 

Section 3.1 – Board of Trustees
SGI shall be governed by a Board of Trustees, which holds the ultimate legal and fiduciary responsibility for the institution. The Board shall establish policies, approve budgets, and appoint the President.

 

Section 3.2 – President
The President shall serve as the Chief Executive Officer of SGI, overseeing academic, administrative, and student affairs, and implementing policies as determined by the Board of Trustees.

 

Section 3.3 – Administrative Leadership
The administrative structure shall include vice presidents, directors, and department heads, as appointed by the President, to lead core areas including academics, finance, enrollment, student life, and operations.

 

Article IV – Academic Affairs

 

Section 4.1 – Academic Freedom
SGI affirms the right of faculty and students to explore ideas and engage in critical thinking within the framework of Christian values.

 

Section 4.2 – Curriculum and Programs
All academic programs shall be approved by the Academic Affairs Committee and aligned with institutional standards and partner institution requirements.

 

Section 4.3 – Faculty Appointments
Faculty shall be appointed based on academic credentials, professional experience, and commitment to the mission of SGI.

 

Article V – Student Affairs

 

Section 5.1 – Student Rights and Responsibilities
SGI students are entitled to a safe, respectful learning environment and are expected to uphold the values of integrity, responsibility, and community.

 

Section 5.2 – Student Government
SGI recognizes the Student Government Association (SGA) as the official voice of the student body. The SGA shall operate under its own constitution, subject to institutional oversight.

 

Section 5.3 – Code of Conduct
Students are bound by the SGI Code of Conduct, which promotes academic honesty, respectful behavior, and adherence to campus policies.

 

Article VI – Finance and Property

 

Section 6.1 – Fiscal Responsibility
SGI shall maintain sound financial practices in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and undergo regular audits.

 

Section 6.2 – Tuition and Fees
Tuition and fees shall be set annually by the administration and approved by the Board of Trustees.

 

Section 6.3 – Property and Assets
All real and personal property shall be held in the name of South Georgia Institute and managed in a manner that supports the institution's mission and longevity.

 

Article VII – Partnerships and Affiliations

SGI may enter into formal agreements with other academic institutions, accrediting bodies, and community organizations to advance its mission, subject to Board approval and compliance with accreditation standards.

 

Article VIII – Amendments

These statutes may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Board of Trustees, following written notice and consultation with relevant institutional stakeholders.

 

Ratification

These statutes shall become effective immediately upon approval by the Board of Trustees of South Georgia Institute.
