POLICIES
Parking
Any vehicle parked on campus must have an South Georgia Institute parking permit. Permits may be obtained at:

Parking Information & Regulations
Parking fees are included as part of your course registration at South Georgia Institute. All students are expected to comply with SGI Parking Regulations, which can be reviewed in full by accessing the official SGI Parking Guidelines.
Parking Permits
Each registered motor vehicle must display a valid SGI parking permit:

For cars and trucks: A hangtag permit will be issued and must be clearly displayed on the rearview mirror or dashboard so that the permit number is visible at all times.

For motorcycles: A pressure-sensitive decal will be issued and must be affixed to the front fork of the vehicle.
Important Notes:

Parking permits are non-transferable and must only be used by the student to whom the permit is issued.

The hangtag must be placed in the vehicle that is actively being used on campus.
Lost or Additional Permits:
-
A $5.00 replacement fee will be charged for lost or misplaced permits.

Additional hangtags may be purchased for $5.00 each.

Parking Regulations
All vehicles must park in designated parking areas. Faculty and Staff parking is indicated by YELLOW parking space lines. Student parking is allowed in WHITE lined parking spaces only. Faculty, staff, and students parking in Visitor Parking are guilty of a parking violation.

Temporary Parking Permits
If your registered vehicle becomes inoperable, you may request a temporary parking permit at no cost from the SGI Front Office. To obtain a temporary permit, please bring the following:

Your original SGI parking permit (hangtag or decal) number

Vehicle registration for the temporary vehicle
Towing Authorization
-
If you plan to have your vehicle towed from campus, you must immediately notify the Office of Student Affairs.

Campus Security will not authorize any vehicle to be towed unless the registered owner has provided prior approval and notification. Unauthorized towing requests will be denied to ensure vehicle security.
Parking Citations & Appeals
If you receive a parking citation, you are required to either:

Pay the fine, or
-
Submit an appeal (PDF form) within five (5) business days of receiving the citation
Failure to take action within this time frame will result in the forfeiture of your right to appeal.
Visitor Citations
Visitors who receive a citation should either:

Submit it in person to the SGI Security Department, or
-
Mail it to the department address provided on the citation
Visitors must clearly write on the citation the name of the person they visited, the location, and the purpose of the visit.

Disabled Spaces
Accessible Parking and Special Accommodations
South Georgia Institute complies with all state regulations regarding accessible parking. In accordance with State Law §40-6-226, designated handicap parking spaces are reserved exclusively for individuals with permanent disabilities. Illegally parking in a handicap zone may result in fines of up to $500.00.
Students with state-issued disabled parking permits or license plates may park in any designated accessible parking space on campus.
For students with temporary disabilities, special parking accommodations may be arranged by contacting the SGI Security Department.
